Position Overview

The Office of Fiscal Services is seeking to hire an Accountant Supervisor at the Bureau of Collections located in Springfield, Illinois. The Accountant Supervisor reviews the establishment of client and recipient accounts including administrative and employee accounts. Confers with staff in decentralized offices and other unit and bureau staff to resolve accounting problems. Serves as a working supervisor. Manages and coordinates the review of all accounts identified as meeting potential criteria for write-off and/or civil litigation. Implements and administers policies and procedures to ensure all reimbursable funds are allocated properly. Compiles and prepares the Department’ reports required to be submitted to the Comptroller on quarterly and annual basis.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews the establishment of client and recipient accounts including administrative and employee accounts.

  • Implements and administers policies and procedures to ensure all reimbursable funds are allocated properly.
  • Compiles and prepares the Department’ reports required to be submitted to the Comptroller on quarterly and annual basis.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing complex accounting and auditing work involving all phases of accounting, budget execution and development for a public or private organization. 
  • Two (2) years of professional experience preparing fiscal reports, internal and external reports, and audit preparation reports for a public or private organization. 
  • Two (2) years of professional experience reviewing detailed work including written or numerical data and making calculations accurately. 
  • Two (2) years of basic proficiency in Microsoft, Word, Excel, etc. 
  • Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • One (1) year of professional experience supervising staff engaged in general accounting budgetary or external auditing activities.

Work Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday - Friday, 1 hour unpaid lunch
