Essential Functions
- As presiding Steward, regulate all live races for compliance with racing rules and regulations.
- Responsible for adjudicating potential violations and reporting the activities of the races.
- Coordinate with other race officials prior to the start of the start of the daily race program and adjust as necessary to ensure the safety of participants and that appropriate personnel are in place.
- Work with Board management and State Veterinarians to ensure procedures to protect equine health and compliance with rules regarding equine health and safety, including medication and drug administration.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the horse racing industry with at least five years of that experience as a racing Steward.
- ROAP level 1 accreditation.
- Minimum on year of experience managing staff or a racing office.
- Minimum five years of experience participating in administrative Steward's hearing with at least one year conducting Steward's hearings.
- Minimum five years of experience applying racing jurisdiction rules to race decisions.
- Minimum two years of experience producing Stewards' rulings and daily minutes using computer software.
- Minimum two years of experience using spreadsheets and document creation software to create reports and simple spreadsheets for reporting, logging and tracking of information.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree with emphasis in racetrack management or related coursework.
- Experience using TrackManager and ARCI database.
Employment Conditions
- Ability to travel to all locations under jurisdiction of Illinois Racing Board.
- Employee and members of household must not hold an IRB license or have an economic interest in a license holder now or in the 12 months prior to hire.
