Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is seeking to hire a Public Service Administrator to serve as their HIV Program Coordinator in the Office of Health Services. This person will coordinate the Peer Education Program as well as serve as the program spokesperson. This person will provide program direction to IDOC staff providing HIV/STD prevention training throughout IDOC facilities. Job Responsibilities

  1. Plans and coordinates the Peer Education Program within Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) facilities statewide.
  2. Serves as working supervisor.
  3. Reviews all submitted reports from staff.
  4. Develops educational methods and programs.
  5. Plans, organizes, and contributes to the creation of major events like Summit of Hope, World Aids Day, or similar programs that promote awareness of conditions like HIV and the public health significance.
  6. Monitors budgetary expenditures for travel, supplies, and educational materials.
  7. Conducts site visits to IDOC facilities.
  8. Develops and maintains databases utilized for analysis and program planning.
  9. Serves as program spokesperson.
  10. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires a master’s degree in an area of Health Sciences, Nursing, Public Health, or Public Administration, or similar.
  2. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a health prevention program.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with incarcerated or otherwise detained individuals.
  2. Prefers at least two (2) years of implementing an agency’s programs, service objectives, activities, and operational systems.
  3. Prefers at least two (2) years of applying theory and practices of communicable and hereditary disease detection, prevention, and control.
  4. Prefers at least two (2) years of planning, interpreting, and coordinating a statewide disease detection, prevention, and control program.
  5. Prefers at least one (1) year of adhering to disease reporting laws, rules, and regulations.
  6. Prefers at least one (1) year of reading and interpreting data analysis and statistics.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to travel occasionally to IDOC facilities to evaluate and resolve planning and coordinating problems as well fulfilling educational missions; overnight stays may be required.
  2. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen.  The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
