Duties & Responsibilities
- Research – Fieldwork/Data Collection
• Participate in or lead field work in compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines, including reconnaissance surveys, testing and mitigation project.
• Locate and document archaeological sites using topographic maps, field sketch maps, and GIS technology.
• Provide basic cultural identification, description, and interpretation of archaeological materials.
• Co-author or author archaeological short reports and technical reports in compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines.
• Ensure the safety of staff and equipment. - Research – Data Analysis/Interpretation
• Create maps using ArcGIS pro for use in fieldwork and reports.
• Clean, prepare, and catalog archaeological materials.
• Data entry.
• Gather archival, cartographic, geophysical, and geographic information relevant to site investigations and/or project areas.
• Assist with the proper handling, identification, quantification, and recordation of archaeological artifacts, and faunal, botanical, soil, and specialized samples.
• Assist supervisory personnel with inventory descriptions, and the completion of forms and production of reports.
• Assist with proper curation of artifacts for both ISAS and the Illinois State Museum. - Outreach and Other • Participate in public outreach and other educational events and professional conferences. • Keep abreast of developments in this discipline. • Perform other related duties as needed in order to further the mission and goals of the Survey, PRI, and University.
