The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem-solving environment. This position serves as a Web Developer, performing difficult and specialized professional programming functions supporting the Illinois State Police (DoIT / ISP). In this role, you will design and write program specifications and code for complex distributed systems enhancements and new web application development.

Essential Functions

Under general direction, serves as a Web Developer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Illinois State Police (ISP).
Performs technical and advisory tasks in the areas of design, construction, and maintenance of applications.
Interviews and consults with users on distributed- and web-based data processing needs and technical studies.
Maintains, analyzes, recommends, and enhances new procedures and techniques to improve the supported application systems.
Serves as a resource and contact for users of the web systems, other technical staff, and the ISP help desk personnel.
Provides guidance and training to lower-level staff on the proper programming techniques, applications, documentation, standards, and requirements.
Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field through continuing education.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields.

Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Web Services or a related Information Technology field.

Specialized Skills

Requires one (1) year of professional experience with web application and distributed system development.

Requires one (1) year of professional experience utilizing Object-oriented (OO) programming languages to develop web applications.

Requires one (1) year of professional experience conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
