The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking to hire qualified candidates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative thinking, problem-solving environment. This position serves as a Web Developer, performing difficult and specialized professional programming functions supporting the Illinois State Police (DoIT / ISP). In this role, you will design and write program specifications and code for complex distributed systems enhancements and new web application development.

Essential Functions

  • Under general direction, serves as a Web Developer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Illinois State Police (ISP).
  • Performs technical and advisory tasks in the areas of design, construction, and maintenance of applications.
  • Interviews and consults with users on distributed- and web-based data processing needs and technical studies.
  • Maintains, analyzes, recommends, and enhances new procedures and techniques to improve the supported application systems.
  • Serves as a resource and contact for users of the web systems, other technical staff, and the ISP help desk personnel.
  • Provides guidance and training to lower-level staff on the proper programming techniques, applications, documentation, standards, and requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field through continuing education.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Web Services or a related Information Technology field.
  • Specialized Skills

  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience with web application and distributed system development.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience utilizing Object-oriented (OO) programming languages to develop web applications.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
