Description : Position Summary :

Imagine Children’s Museum is seeking an experienced, self-directed and results-oriented part-time grant specialist to contribute to its mission by researching, writing, and preparing compelling grant proposals and other donor communication tools. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a proven track record of securing major grants and a passion for children and play. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple grant applications simultaneously, while tracking progress and ensuring all deadlines are met. As part of a small, dynamic development team, the Grant Specialist will work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and other team members to meet ambitious annual fundraising goals and help secure vital resources for the organization. We’re looking for someone who believes in the mission of Imagine and has an exceptional drive for furthering our fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities :

Grant Writing and Proposal Preparation

  • In coordination with the Chief Advancement Officer, lead the writing and preparation of key grant proposals to foundations, corporate giving platforms, government agencies and other funding sources.
  • Research and identify new grant opportunities that align with Imagine’s goals and mission.
  • Develop compelling narratives to meet the specific requirements of each grantor.
  • Ensure that proposals are well-organized, clear, and compelling, reflecting the needs and impact of Imagine’s programs, exhibits and role as a vital family resource in the community.
  • Proactively coordinate across departments to gather all necessary documentation (e.g., supporting materials, budgets, financial reports, testimonials) is complete.
  • Proofread and prepare grant submissions for final internal review.
  • Submit, record and track approved grant submissions according to Imagine’s procedures.
  • Create, contribute to and proofread other donor communications tools as requested.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to drive ambitious growth in grant fundraising and align grant proposals with organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate across Museum departments to gather information for proposals, ensuring the accurate representation of program goals, outcomes, and budgetary needs.
  • Assist in the creation of case statements, annual reports and other materials needed for grant applications.
  • Grant Research

  • Conduct ongoing research to identify new funding opportunities that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Stay current on trends and changes in the nonprofit funding landscape, including new grant opportunities, funding regulations, and best practices.
  • Administrative Support

  • Track and organize all materials related to grant submissions and reporting.
  • Assist with additional administrative tasks related to grant management as needed.
  • Requirements :

    Position Requirements :

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple grants simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office computer suite skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in fundraising databases is strongly preferred.
  • Self-directed project management skills. Demonstrated skills for multi-tasking.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in writing, budgeting and tracking.
  • Enjoy working independently and as part of a team.
  • Handles confidential information in an appropriately professional and respectful manner.
  • Enthusiastic about Imagine Children’s Museum and its mission and values.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to identify problems and find solutions.
  • Education and / or Experience :

  • 3-5 years’ experience of successful grant writing.
  • Proven track record of securing grants from a variety of sources, including foundations, corporations and government entities.
  • Strong knowledge of grant research techniques, grant writing best practices, and the ability to tailor proposals to different funders.
  • Proficiency in donor management systems, grant databases, project management tools and donor relations software.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in nonprofit management, communications, English, business, public relations, or related field
  • Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising is preferred.
  • Supervisory Responsibility :

    May supervise volunteers as needed.

  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Independent body mobility to access a standard office environment with shelves and drawers of varying heights.
  • Vision sufficient to read a computer screen, 12 point and finer printed text, and handwritten documents.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard daily.
  • Speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone, and in small groups.
  • Mental stamina for problem solving and dealing with stressful situations; prioritizing multiple tasks; interpreting and applying oral / written instructions.
  • No ongoing and consistent extraordinary physical effort or strain involved in this position.
  • This is a part-time position, onsite in Everett. The starting pay rate is $31-$34 an hour. All part-time employees receive accrued sick time, anniversary appreciation day and other museum perks!
