What are the responsibilities and job description for the Breast Care Coordinator (APRN or PA) position at Imaging Associates AK?
- Development and implementation of the IA Breast Surveillance Program, working closely with the CEO and Mammography Supervisor.
- Work with radiologists to determine recommendations to patients following biopsies. May assist during biopsy procedures.
- Contact patients and providers regarding additional imaging procedures that must be performed to clarify interpretation
- Assist in the determination of the necessity of genetic testing and assist the patient with family history forms and scheduling.
- Manages routine follow up call program for all invasive procedures performed at IA, maintaining accurate records of activities and any adverse outcomes
- May assist radiologist in a procedural setting (e.g. Neuro)
- Act as a liaison between healthcare providers, the patient, family and payers
- Continuously builds and maintains referral relationships with all medical staff.
- Assures the program meets professional and regulatory standards.
- Provides immediate response to physician and patient phone calls
- Responsible for accurately completing records, daily quality assurance and improvement information, meeting regulatory standards. Obtains and documents patient history information
- Compiles with national radiation standards (ALARA)
- Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for position
- Coordinates scheduling for diagnostic exams. Communicates with team members by regular participation in staff meetings
- Implements care/service that recognizes age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served
- Performs other duties as assigned
The Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) serves as a key member of the IA Breast Team to provide clinical as well as emotional support to the diagnostic breast patient. Readily available for concerns/questions throughout the diagnostic process, works closely with radiologists in accumulating results and conveying difficult results to the patient. Develops a close working relationship with all breast specialists and their support staff. Provides information to patients regarding breast cancer risks and strategies for prevention and surveillance. Designs, implement and coordinate IA’s Breast Care Coordination (BCC) Program, acting as key contact for both the patient and the referring practitioner . In addition, the APRN/PA will manage patient follow up for all invasive procedures performed at IA, and record activities and results as appropriate. The APRN/PA will also be involved in community outreach/education and will work closely with the IA Business Development Team in that regard.
The APRN/PA will work in the clinic when required for scheduled diagnostic and biopsy procedures.
· Education: Master’s degree (MSN) or equivalent, or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Licensure/Certification: Current licensure with the State of Alaska as an Authorized Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to be maintained during the entire course of employment.
· Obtain and maintain certification as a Breast Patient Navigator (BPNC). Certification to be obtained within the first year of employment.
· Attendance: Regular Attendance is a requirement of this position.
· English Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
