Job Summary
The Kiln Operator Trainee(KOT) works with and reports to the Kiln Operator(KO). The KOT will function as an additional Kiln Assistant while primarily training full time with the KO to learn kiln operations. The KOT will look for and alert KO to any unusual or abnormal issues with Kilns, Fans, Mills, Coolers, etc. and is accountable for performing his/her duties in a safe, efficient manner to ensure the production of high quality kiln production.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Follow all Environment, Safety and Health policies while performing duties to include but not limited to Confined Space Entry, LOTOTO, Fall Protection, wearing of appropriate PPE for assigned duties, etc.
- Perform daily area and equipment inspections
- Report Safety Hazards or Equipment issues to Kiln Operator and/or Production Supervisor
- Collection of in process samples for quality inspections
- Perform updates to site and area KPI and Visual Management boards
- Perform Level 1 maintenance on equipment in area of responsibility as needed
- Maintain housekeeping in area of responsibility as per Imerys/site 5S standards
- Train with KO to learn kiln operating procedures
- Perform any additional duties as described by Kiln Operator or Kiln Supervisor
Skills and Attributes Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to lift 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be able to work all shifts.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to climb up and down ladders.
- Must be able to work within a team environment
- Must have good written and oral communication skills. General computer literacy or acquired within one month .
- Must wear all required safety equipment.
Education/Experience Requirements
Must have a high school diploma or GED. Technical education is preferred.
Prior experience in kiln operations or as a kiln assistant is preferred but not required.
Environment
- While performing the duties of this job; the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise, outside weather in all conditions and materials used in the process.
- Frequent walking, standing, and sitting with exposure to all seasonal climatic conditions.
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, and/or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
- Approximately 100% plant environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.19 - $25.18 per hour
