The Assistant Director, Student Life Development is an impactful role within the vibrant and diverse IMG Academy boarding school and camp program community that creates meaningful experiences for student-athletes and camp participants. This role’s impact is demonstrated through the leadership and oversight of a dedicated team that develops powerful life skill programming, exciting and relevant student and camper engagement activities and community building initiatives with non-boarding students. The Assistant Director, Student Life Development also works with the greater Student Life Department on all staff training and development programs.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Program Oversight
  • Responsible for leading, inspiring, and managing staff in the areas of Student Life programming, engagement, curriculum build out, non-boarding students and staff development.
  • Create meaningful and impactful experiences for students and campers through ownership and responsibility of student programming curriculum and student and camper engagement delivered in Student Life
  • Ensure non-boarding students and campers are an active and included member of the IMG Academy community through engaging activities and programs.
  • In strong collaboration with the Director of Student Life and appropriate departments, develops and activates powerful staff training curriculum
  • Strong partnership activity with various departments at IMG Academy to allow seamless experiences for students, campers, and staff during Student Life programming and engagement activities.
  • Hire and retain staff that demonstrate IMG Academy Core Values and are passionate in the pursuit of helping student-athletes win their future.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects, budgets, and diligently track and meet deadlines that affect students and staff
  • Collaborate with Director and Assistant Director, Student Life Operations to analyze and implement policies and procedures to maximize performance and customer service.
  • Partner and communicate with Student Life leadership to ensure consistency across the department.
  • Ensure that company policies, procedures and code of conduct are being maintained for both students and staff.
  • Serve as a responsible adult presence, providing guidance and support in the residence halls for staff and student-athletes
Operations
  • Develop and oversee annual programming and engagement planning for the boarding school and summer programs inclusive of budgetary and staffing items
  • In partnership with the Director of Student Life, create annual calendar for relevant and impactful staff development and training programs. Flexible and aware of when to create and implement impromptu training as needed.
  • Oversee the implementation and facilitation of training programs for temporary/part-time/full time staff
  • Participate in revising and updating the Student Handbook
  • Lead large team and department meetings in an organized and engaging way
  • In coordination with other Student Life Leadership, help oversee emergency response and crisis management plans for various situations including weather, lockdown, student illness, injury, etc.
Communication
  • Collaborate and build relationships with departments including Human Resources, Sport Program, Academics and Health Services. Oversee new employee Student Life orientation and acclimation of student-athletes to campus life.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with leadership regarding student-athletes’ development.
  • Communicate and enforce appropriate disciplinary actions for violations.
  • Communicate and follow up on conduct expectations of student life staff.
  • Promptly address escalated student and parent concerns.
  • Build positive, effective relationships with other departments such as sport and school.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethic codes
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Passion and desire to help student-athletes win their future
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling or related area, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience managing a team
  • Experience in training, selection, supervision, programming and evaluation of staff.
  • Must possess good judgment and sensitivity relating to students of various backgrounds.
  • Excellent guest service skills.
  • Experience in a high-pressure, academic/performance setting.
  • Ability to handle and deescalate challenging situations professionally and with sensitivity.
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • A superior work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer and web applications.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or related field, or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ experience working in a formal setting with students grades 6 to 12.
  • Experience in counseling, crisis response and mediation.
  • Experience with residential life, summer camps, secondary school or boarding school
  • Bilingual.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Experience in boarding school setting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
  • Must be able to move around residence hall, including stairs
  • This role is considered essential and may be required to work during weather emergencies or business closures in order to meet operational requirements
