Regional Process Safety Specialist – Petrochemical Industry

Location: Calvert City, KY

Salary: Up to $105,000/year (DOE)

What You’ll Do

As a Regional Process Safety Specialist, you’ll lead critical initiatives to ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) standards while driving continuous improvement in safety practices. Key responsibilities include:

PSM Program Development & Implementation
  • Lead and improve PSM programs by implementing best practices across facilities.
  • Manage all 14 elements of the OSHA PSM standard, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address safety risks in projects and operations.
  • Provide guidance on facility processes, engineering, and maintenance activities to ensure PSM and RMP compliance.
Training & Communication
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees and contractors on PSM/RMP compliance and internal safety standards.
  • Foster a culture of safety by partnering with team members and contractors to ensure safe work practices.
  • Communicate safety requirements and updates effectively across teams and leadership.
Audits, Reviews, & Investigations
  • Lead and participate in compliance audits for PSM/RMP-covered facilities.
  • Support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and oversee corrective actions.
  • Monitor and track action items from audits and assessments to ensure timely resolution.
Mechanical Integrity (MI) Governance
  • Assist in developing robust MI policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Support compliance with MI standards during capital projects and operations.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to mechanical integrity.
What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a dedicated professional with the following qualifications:

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in PSM and RMP best practices for chemical or petrochemical plants.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA PSM standards, Clean Air Act RMP regulations, and related codes (API, ANSI, ASME).
  • Proven expertise in process hazard analysis, incident investigations, and safety training.
  • Strong technical skills, including SAP, PHA Works, and engineering software.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% and work on-site with teams to address safety issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Process Safety.
  • Professional certifications such as API, CSP, or CCPSC.
  • Experience in leadership roles or as a subject matter expert in process safety.
  • Familiarity with capital project management and cost estimation.
