SUMMARY

Assists with company-wide human resource programs and the day-to-day management of personnel. Provides functional guidance for human resources administrative support needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions in the corporate area; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Oversees background check process; reviews results and recommends action involved
  • Works with payroll department to reconcile discrepancies related to employee time entries
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance management; productivity; training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization?s HRIS and talent management systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a bachelor?s degree in a related field
  • Human Resources certification preferred
  • Experience within the Maritime industry preferred
  • Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Most work performed in office environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, adding machine, scanner
