Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and dedicated Church Organist to join our congregation. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for music and a strong understanding of liturgical practices. Familiarity with songs and liturgy of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is helpful, but not required. Immanuel usually has one Saturday night service and two services Sunday morning in addition to special services throughout the year such as Lent, Advent, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas, & New Year's Eve. The successful candidate will be one of at least three organists to serve the Congregation.. This is a part time position with hours usually limited to service times. The Church Organist will collaborate closely with the pastor and choir to select appropriate music that aligns with the church's mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Play the organ during weekly worship services, special events, and seasonal celebrations.
- Collaborate with the choir director to prepare for rehearsals and performances.
- Select and arrange music that complements the liturgical calendar and enhances worship themes.
- Provide accompaniment for congregational singing, choir performances, and soloists.
- Work with church leaders to maintain the organ in good working condition.
- Assist in planning music for weddings, funerals, and other church-related events as needed.
- Foster a welcoming environment for all musicians and participants in the music ministry.
Requirements
- Proficiency in playing the organ with a strong understanding of musical styles, suited for worship settings.
- Experience in a church or similar environment is helpful but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of liturgical practices of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is helpful but not required.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as required by the church schedule.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $100.00 - $150.00 per hour
