JOB TITLE : Assistant Controller
DEPARTMENT : Finance
REPORTS TO : Finance Director / Controller
SUMMARY : Applies accounting principles and managerial acumen to direct the accounting operations of the company, including financial and managerial reporting, record keeping, controls, and budgeting. Enhances the performance of the business by ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and providing timely and accurate managerial information.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Manage and ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes.
Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and proceduresPrepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.Ensure accurate and timely reporting to management and external stakeholders.General Ledger and Account Management :Maintain and monitor the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, inter-company transactions, and other balance sheet accounts.Review journal entries for accuracy and proper documentation.Manages implementation of accounting software and reporting applications, such as Oracle and Power BIBudgeting and Forecasting :Assist in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
Analyze financial variances and trends, providing insights to improve profitability and reduce costs.Compliance and Audit :Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with external auditors and prepare for quarterly and annual audits.Develop and enforce internal controls to prevent inaccuracies and fraud.Team Management :Supervise, mentor, and train accounting team members.
Set team goals and evaluate performance.Promote a culture of accuracy, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Process Improvement :Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes and systems.
Collaborate with other departments to streamline workflows and improve financial data quality.Tax Compliance :Coordinate with tax advisors on compliance, filing, and planning.
Assist in the preparation of tax returns and other statutory filings.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
