About Us : PurgeRite, the leader in high-quality mechanical flushing services, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Controller to help shape our organization as we undergo exciting and rapid growth. This position is mission critical to our existing and future service implementations. We serve all sizes of commercial mechanical companies across the U.S. with end user clients that include many top Fortune 100 companies. Projects include data centers, semiconductor and EV battery manufacturers, universities, health care facilities, and district energy systems.

Position Overview : The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the company, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and efficient financial management. This position collaborates closely with the Controller, accounting team, and other departments to manage day-to-day accounting activities and provide strategic financial insights with a focus on the operations of the business, including oversight of Revenue, COGS and project profitability.

Key Responsibilities :

Revenue Recognition Management :

  • Oversee the implementation and management of the percentage of completion method for revenue recognition.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of revenue, cost, and profit for contracts and projects in progress.
  • Monitor the percentage of completion on active projects, tracking progress against milestones and budgets.
  • Ensure consistent project setup between all internal systems for purposes of tracking costs.

Accounts Receivable Management :

  • Supervise and manage the accounts receivable function, including timeliness and accuracy of invoicing.
  • Develop and oversee AR collection KPIs ensuring continuous improvement in cash collections.
  • Assess and manage bad debt allowance.
  • Financial Reporting :

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Analyze and report variances between recognized revenue and projected costs for each project.
  • Prepare the monthly revenue forecast based on backlog and pipeline.
  • Perform variance analysis on forecast vs actuals.
  • Provide guidance on project forecasting, including expected revenue and margin analysis.
  • Process Improvement & Documentation :

  • Continuously evaluate and improve the internal processes for revenue recognition, ensuring they align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in oversight of project billing milestone setup in NetSuite, collaborating with project managers.
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation of PoC methodologies and assumptions for future audits and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices.
  • Collaboration & Communication :

  • Work closely with the accounting, finance, and project management teams to obtain accurate information related to project costs, timelines, and progress.
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance and assist in the audit process.
  • Support the Controller in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Compliance & Risk Management :

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606) and other regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks related to revenue recognition.
  • Training & Development :

  • Provide training to finance and project management teams on percentage of completion revenue recognition and related financial concepts.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, accounting changes, and best practices in revenue recognition.
  • Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Strong proficiency in percentage of completion revenue recognition.
  • Strong proficiency in managing accounts receivable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial analysis tools.

  • Attention to Detail : Precision in managing financial information and ensuring accuracy in reporting.

  • Strategic Thinking : Capability to align financial management with the organization’s long-term goals.
  • Adaptability : Flexibility to respond to changing regulations, technologies, and business needs.
  • Financial Software Proficiency : Familiarity with advanced financial modeling and analysis tools, such as Excel, PowerBI or specific ERP systems, especially NetSuite.
  • Regulatory Knowledge : Awareness of changes in tax laws and financial regulations to ensure compliance.
