The Peer Mindfulness Activities Coordinator, you will foster a supportive and engaging environment to promote mental health and wellness through mindfulness practices. This role is designed to connect with individuals aged 12 and up in throughout the State of Delaware, providing an accessible and relatable approach to mindfulness education. Drawing from your own experiences with mindfulness, you will lead activities and discussions in an informal setting, helping participants to discover and benefit from mindfulness techniques.

The Peer Mindfulness Activities Coordinator is passionate about mental health and has firsthand experience with mindfulness, which you are eager to share to assist others in their personal and collective journeys. This position requires a commitment to understanding the unique challenges and opportunities in working with a diverse age group, ensuring that mindfulness education is adapted to be age-appropriate and engaging for all participants.

This position will have a primary focus in New Castle County, Delaware, but will be required to travel to Sussex County every week as well.

Primarily Monday through Friday, day shift, with occasional nights and weekends as needed.

Requirements

General Accountabilities

  • Lead group sessions that introduce mindfulness techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and mindful movement
  • Use personal experiences to illustrate the real-world benefits and challenges of maintaining mindfulness practice
  • Foster a safe and supportive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable exploring mindfulness practices
  • Promote interaction and discussion among group members to enhance shared learning and support
  • Share resources, including articles, books, and videos, that can help peers deepen their understanding of mindfulness
  • Coordinate and deliver a variety of mindfulness activities, such as:
    • Guided Meditation: Lead participants through guided meditation sessions to help them focus on the present moment and reduce stress
    • Mindful Breathing Exercises: Teach breathing exercises that participants can use to center themselves during moments of anxiety or tension
    • Mindful Eating Sessions: Conduct sessions where participants practice mindful eating, focusing on the sensory experience of food
    • Body Scan Meditation: Lead body scan exercises where participants progressively relax each part of their body, promoting physical awareness and relaxation
    • Mindful Journaling: Encourage participants to engage in mindful journaling, reflecting on their thoughts and emotions without judgment
    • Mindful Walking: Organize mindful walking exercises where participants focus on the sensations of movement and the environment around them
    • Mindful Art Activities: Incorporate creative activities, such as drawing or coloring, that allow participants to express themselves mindfully
  • Gather feedback from participants to improve the effectiveness and relevance of the sessions
  • Coordinate alumni activities and ensure ongoing engagement with program graduates
  • Conduct discharge follow-up to support participants in their transition from the program to alumni status
  • Develop and adapt mindfulness activities to meet the specific needs of different groups, including youth, adults, and individuals in recovery
  • Advocate for mindfulness and well-being initiatives within the community or organization

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • A solid personal history of practicing mindfulness
  • While formal certification might not be necessary, some training in peer support or facilitation can be advantageous


Travel Requirements

This position requires frequent travel throughout the state to fulfill job duties. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation. This role is ideal for someone comfortable with regular driving and capable of managing a flexible schedule based on the needs of our operations and client locations.

Required Experience

This position is open to individuals who self-identify as being in recovery. Your lived experience and personal understanding of the recovery process are essential in providing authentic support and guidance to those we serve.
