As a small business, our team members wear multiple hats and contribute to the overall success of the company. We are looking for an adaptable and proactive HR Generalist to support our Human Resources department while also providing occasional assistance to other departments as needed.

About the Role

The HR Generalist will play a critical role in managing the daily operations of our HR department, including recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, benefits coordination, compliance tracking, policy administration, and HRIS management. Acting as a key liaison between employees and management, this role ensures a positive, engaging, and compliant workplace environment.

Additionally, given our small business structure, the HR Generalist will also provide support outside of HR, assisting with payroll, answering phones, lead follow-ups, and event setup / cleanup when needed.

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations at the site level, with a dotted line to the Director of HR & Recruiting at the parent company to align with company-wide HR policies and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Recruit, screen, and schedule interviews for qualified candidates.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand required skills and competencies.
  • Conduct onboarding and orientation for new hires to align them with company culture and expectations.

HR Administration & Compliance

  • Execute HR programs, including compensation, benefits, leave, employee relations, performance management, and training & development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and review HR policies to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Track and document compliance-related requirements (leave, safety, training, etc.).
  • Generate HR reports and metrics to identify trends and provide insights to leadership.
  • Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Act as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to HR policies and benefits.
  • Assist in employee disciplinary meetings, investigations, and terminations as needed.
  • Support and implement employee recognition programs to improve engagement and retention.
  • Cross-Functional Support (As Needed)

  • Assist with payroll processing and HRIS system updates.
  • Answer phone lines and assist with lead follow-ups.
  • Provide event support, including setup / cleanup for industry events or trade shows.
  • Help with permits, administrative tasks, or other projects that require extra hands.
  • What Were Looking For

  • 3 years of recent Human Resources experience required.
  • 1 year in an HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or HR Manager role within a small business setting.
  • Experience in roofing, construction, or a similar trade / service industry preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in employment laws, HR policies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite & HRIS systems.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.
  • HR degree or SHRM certification is a plus, but not required.
  • Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
