What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communication Systems Engineering Intern position at Impinj?
Team Overview:
As an intern in the Communication Systems group, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with hardware, software, product, and test engineering teams to support the whole portfolio of Impinj RAIN RFID products. Enabling RAIN RFID to connect trillions of everyday items to the Internet of Things.
What You Will Do:
- Characterize RF system performance of the Impinj R700 reader product, under various operating points
- Implement test and analysis tools using Python
- Generate documentation at each step of the development process - design, implementation, and validation - of a feature for upcoming product and firmware releases
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to ensure features are properly implemented, through planning and design reviews
What You Will Bring:
- Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar program, with coursework in Linear Systems, Probability, Digital Communications, and Digital Signal Processing
- Must be able to work on-site in Impinj’s Fairview office at least 3 days per week
- Experience with programming, scripting, and analysis in languages like MATLAB, Python, or C
- Familiarity with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and general lab equipment
- Clear communication skills and ability to document technical information for a variety of intended audiences

The typical base pay range for this role across the US is $26.00/hour - $36.00/hour. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties, requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Both market wage data and the mid-point of the pay range is reviewed and used as the starting point for all new hire offers. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At Impinj certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
