What are the responsibilities and job description for the Embedded Protocol Engineering Intern position at Impinj?
Team Overview:
As an intern in the RAIN Reader Platform Development group, you will have the opportunity to work on a Reader feature that will impact and be used by Impinj customers.
We have an exciting opportunity for a summer intern to design the interface between reader and antennas. This project focuses on creating a robust communication link between components using real-time processing capabilities and validating its implementation through various testing methods.
What you will do:
- Utilize a PRU core to support a wire-based protocol
- Processor communication between ARM Cortex A53 and PRU core
- Develop a wire-based protocol stack using RTOS Kernel that will communicate between the reader and antenna subsystems
- Use logic analyzer/oscilloscope to validate protocol implementation
- Write state-machine logic with real-time control
What you will bring:
- BS or MS degree candidate in Computer Engineering or similar majors
- Use of C/C and ARM assembly programming languages
- Understanding and working with wire-based protocol
- Design and Develop a Real-Time application using RTOS in solution
- Proven experience working independently in a fast-paced environment and the ability to self-manage
- Experience with protocols, real-time applications, and strong attention to detail
- Interpersonal, organizational and relationship-building skills

The benefits listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Impinj and the country where you work.
The typical base pay range for this role across the US is $26.00/hour - $36.00/hour. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties, requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Both market wage data and the mid-point of the pay range is reviewed and used as the starting point for all new hire offers. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At Impinj certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
