Role: Broadcast Director
Location: Downtown Washington, DC
Hours: 2 PM - 10 PM (Rotational schedule, Monday - Sunday)
Are you an experienced Broadcast Director with a passion for live news production? My client, a leader in TV and broadcast technology, specializes in automating networked newsrooms and is seeking a skilled professional to oversee live newscasts in central Washington, DC.
About the Role:
As a Broadcast Director, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of live and recorded broadcasts. Working closely with Program Editors, Output Producers, and technical teams, you will oversee all elements of production, ensuring high-quality, visually engaging, and editorially sound programming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the smooth operation of live and non-live control rooms, galleries, and studios.
- Collaborate closely with editorial leadership, guiding operational staff to ensure top-tier production standards.
- Supervise all aspects of production, from pre-broadcast planning to live execution.
- Quickly identify and resolve production challenges in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Operate vision mixers and video servers while simultaneously directing the output.
Requirements:
- Proven ability to remain calm and composed under pressure in a live broadcast environment.
- Hands-on experience with broadcast automation systems, particularly Viz Mosart or Ross Overdrive (Sony ELC or Grass Valley experience is also a plus).
- Strong collaboration skills with both editorial and technical teams, with the ability to make decisive adjustments as breaking news unfolds.
- Solid knowledge of global news and the ability to quickly recognize key figures and world leaders.
- Creative directing abilities, with an understanding of different program styles and audience engagement strategies.
- Proficiency in operating control room equipment, requiring both technical knowledge and hands-on operational skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
