Job description
Bushy Hill Day Camp is looking for Camp Counselors and Assistant Counselors for the Summer 2025 season! We are looking for creative, energetic, responsible individuals who are excited to learn and teach about the natural world while exploring our 740-acre campus. Strengthen your communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and leadership skills while creating memorable experiences for children and helping to foster a love for the outdoors.
Counselors supervise and ensure the safety of children ages 5 to 15. Campers are put into field groups based on age. Assistant Counselors will help to ensure camper safety, lead activities, and manage field groups of campers. Staff will create weekly or bi-weekly schedules of activities based on campers' ages and interests, lead activities with a focus on environmental education, including hiking, field and pond studies, arts and crafts, wildlife tracking, plant identification, play games, provide opportunities for campers to build confidence and learn new skills, and ensure that campers have a fun, safe experience. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is available to interested individuals.
Positions available have flexible start dates beginning in early June and ending in mid to late August. Staff orientation and training is provided. Training and resources for all activities will be provided, as well as America Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid training.
Responsibilities
- Lead recreational activities for groups of campers on our property
- Teach campers about the natural world through games, activities, and other engaging learning strategies
- Escort and supervise campers between activities and in their free time
- Resolve any issues between campers and address behavioral issues (supervisors will always be available for further help)
- Ensure the safety of campers by adhering to all safety rules and regulations
- Perform first aid or address injuries/incidents as needed
Skills
- Previous experience working with children is helpful, but we are willing to train individuals who possess the necessary qualities to successfully fulfill the position requirements.
- Patient, reliable, and friendly demeanor
- A love for working with and inspiring youth
- Energetic and positive personality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (able to take part in activities like hiking, swimming, and running)
- The ability to swim is required in order to become a lifeguard.
