Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of our commercial construction division. The ideal candidate will excel in using ERP (Vista specific experience preferred) construction software, ensuring timely month-end book closings, and improving financial accuracy through solid budgeting and P&L management. The Controller will be responsible for managing the AIA draw process, leading a dedicated finance team, enhancing our financial systems, and working closely with the construction operations and sales teams to provide exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, ensuring timely month-end and year-end closings.
- Develop and maintain a robust budget versus actual P&L and balance sheet analysis.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Implement detailed individual job cost control management to ensure projects remain within budget and on schedule.
- Manage cash allocation by job, ensuring optimal use of financial resources for each project.
System Optimization
- Maximize the utilization of Vista construction software for efficient financial management and reporting.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements to streamline financial operations.
AIA Draw Management
- In conjunction with the operations team, manage the AIA draw process, including the preparation, submission, and recordation of draw requests.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms and maintain accurate records of all draw activities.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of the accounting team.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Prepare detailed financial analyses, reports, and presentations for senior management.
- Monitor key financial metrics and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks to protect the company's interests.
- Establish and ensure compliance with workers' compensation, general liability, auto and equipment insurance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the construction operations and sales teams to support their financial needs and objectives.
- Act as a service arm to the rest of the team, providing timely and accurate financial information and support.
- Collaborate with project managers and sales personnel to ensure alignment on financial goals and project performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in Vista construction software is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.

Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
