Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Data Specialist is responsible for providing information for data driven decision-making for all aspects of the agency, including department management reports, outcomes reports and data related to grants. This position is a member of the QI Department and reports to the Director of Quality Improvement.
This position will play a critical role in the analysis, management, and reporting of data related to behavioral health services. Your expertise will help inform decision-making processes, improve patient outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of care provided by our organization. You will collaborate with clinical teams, data analysts, and administrative staff to ensure that data-driven insights are effectively utilized in our behavioral health programs. The Behavioral Health Data Specialist is familiar with mining data from the electronic health record (EHR) utilizing SQL query skills and experienced in Power BI for data visualization and dashboard development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Collect, clean, and maintain comprehensive datasets pertaining to behavioral health services.
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data through regular audits and quality control measures.Data Analysis :Analyze behavioral health data to identify trends, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
Utilize advanced Power BI functions to automate data processing and reporting tasks.Develop statistical models and utilize analytical tools to support program evaluation and strategic planning.Develops survey and other data collection tools and processes as needed.Reporting :Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate complex data in an accessible manner.Uses information from the Division of Mental Health and Addictions (DMHA) and other sources to create useful clinical management reports and increase achievement of state outcomes.Collaboration :Work closely with clinical teams to understand their data needs and provide support in data interpretation.
Collaborate with IT and data management teams to enhance data collection methods and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.Serves on Quality Improvement, Information Technology, EHR, and other committees as assigned.Research and Data Support :Assist in the design and implementation of research studies related to behavioral health.
Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data analysis and behavioral health research.Respond to data requests from teams and departments to identify quality improvement and process improvement opportunities.Reviews and assists in the development of all evaluation components of grants.Training and Education :Provide training and guidance to staff on data management practices and the use of analytical tools.
Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making within the organization.Acts as a resource for agency staff and stakeholders to provide data for various projects and presentations. Trains staff to generate their own data and reports.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Public Health, Evaluation, Data Science). Preferred master's level with training in research.A minimum of 3 years of experience in evaluation, data analysis, process improvement. or related roles, preferably in healthcare. Some experience in a managerial role preferred.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including experience in data modeling, report creation, and dashboard development.Strong interpersonal, communication and data management and data analysis skills required.Software and database management skills, particularly SPSS, SQL and Excel. Experience with SQL query for data extraction in EHR.Data collection, management, analysis, and visualization skills.Knowledge of program evaluation and quality improvement methods and tools.Knowledge of Performance Measurement programs and how they relate to regulatory agencies.Knowledge of clinical record's policies and procedures.Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and engaging manner, both written and verbal.Understanding of a community mental health not-for-profit environment and culture.Ability to interact with other staff in a positive yet assertive manner.Our Benefits
