 Financial Accountant 
Independence Community College is seeking a Financial Accountant to assist the Controller in the preparation and maintenance of financial records in accordance with accounting principles. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial operations. 

The Financial Accountant is a full-time, 12-month classified salaried position with a salary range of 
$50,000 - $55,000, commensurate with qualifications, job knowledge, and experience. This position reports directly to the Controller. 
 
Primary Responsibilities 
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with procedural standards.
  • Manage and reconcile accounts, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Assist in budget development and monitoring to align with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate audits and prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees and governmental agencies.
  • Analyze financial data to provide recommendations for improved financial performance and forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations by monitoring legislative changes and enforcing adherence to requirements.
  • Provide financial data support for grant applications and reporting.
  • Collaborate with various departments to streamline financial processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in tax filings and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports for management as needed.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations by the 15th of the following month.
  • Maintain knowledge of financial policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proficiently use Ellucian Colleague and Intuit QuickBooks software.
  • Record and reconcile ACH payments and deposits monthly.
  • Create and input journal entries for the Business Office and campus departments.
  • Set up and assess student charges, importing bookstore, library, and meal charges to student accounts.
  • Assist with reconciliation of federal funds and filing record retention.
  • Contribute to the completion of the annual financial audit.
  • Support the creation and management of Board of Trustees financial reports and business intelligence dashboards.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Controller.

Required Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of accounting experience; experience in education or fund accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fund accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, and Colleague.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of complex formulas and functions.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build effective communication and interpersonal relationships across the institution and the community.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Positive, collaborative work ethic aligned with ICC’s vision and mission.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
 
  • Light work with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
