What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Administrative Assistant Needed position at Independent Contract Solutions?
Hello!
Are you curious about the legal field? Administrative assisting? Entrepreneurship? Maybe considering paralegal studies, business, marketing, law school, or a complete career change? This could be your chance to dip your toes in and learn from real experience through a small, supportive, one person team!
I am currently seeking a part-time assistant to help with my day-to-day administrative and organizational tasks while gaining hands-on paralegal assistant experience along the way! (No benefits are available at this time***)
The Basics:
**You MUST have access to your own computer/laptop**
This position is primarily remote although it will require you to meet with me in person at times for example, training, and other instances that we organize and plan together for special projects etc.
- What you’ll do: Help keep me on task and productive with my workload, data entry, calendar scheduling, organization (potential physical files & virtual files via Google Workspace), research, drafting simple/basic legal documents and cover letters, and assistance with growing my business.
- Hours/Setting: To start, I am proposing 5 hours a week with the potential for additional hours as I grow. This really depends on the candidate’s experience and how much training is necessary. I do NOT have a formal office space and this position will require you to commute in person to meet me at a working location we both feel comfortable in. I work around the inner metro area of Charlotte, NC. (I have working location options for us and by that I don't mean random coffee shops, but work sharing spaces or other attorneys offices that I have relationships with) Working days and times will be discussed in the interviews and are flexible.
- Pay: $15/hour to start with opportunities for pay increases as I gain more contract work. (It’s modest, I know – this is to be a somewhat educational experience in my world of being an independent contract paralegal, as well as, working very closely with me as an entrepreneur and small business owner.)
- Experience: Basic computer skills are required. Further, any relevant office experience would be absolutely wonderful, although not a requirement beyond the basics, I’ll show you the ropes on everything you will touch. Knowledgeable of Google Docs/Google Workspace is a plus.
Who We’d Love to Work With: Someone whose second nature is to be organized and efficient. Someone who is not afraid to ask too many questions. Someone who is ready to learn, and ideally (my absolute dream) would be someone familiar with neurodiversity or has experience working with neurodivergent individuals.
This role is a blend of administrative work, learning, and mentorship – and only for someone who’s open-minded and excited to dig into the legal/entrepreneurial world with me. In addition, and maybe even most importantly, someone who gets excited when they hear me say that I am on a mission to make waves in the legal industry and become the best example of what a much needed change in our work-life balance looks like.
Position Requirements:
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE. Reliable transportation for our in person meetings which will be TBD for how often we have those.
Your educational background isn’t important to me. To be frank, I don't really care where you went to school or what your GPA is/was. If you've attended a university (or currently attending), I won't be impressed with that piece of information and it certainly will not increase your odds – I need someone who has common sense, strong emotional intelligence, a real willingness to learn, exceptional communication skills, and at least a GED/High School Diploma. I appreciate, respect, and encourage sharing your life experiences and other trade skills during the interview process because I believe those shine over any traditional or formal education out there.
My plan is to hold two (2) interview sessions per qualified candidate. The first session will be an "Introduction Interview". The second session will be the official "Formal Interview".
The "Introduction Interview" will be our initial in person meeting where I will tell you more about myself, my business, and my needs so that you can determine whether this position and working with me actually interests you or not. We will discuss the experience that you bring to the table and briefly get to know each other. I imagine this as a casual and informative meeting. You will be free to ask as many questions as you'd like and please do not "dress to impress" as that will not increase your odds either.
(**Note: I might be open to a virtual introduction interview, although I highly prefer in person meetings. Virtual introduction interviews will be given to those who respond well to this job listing by following the directions below and/or have an intriguing response that I may want to address or hear more about ASAP. That is simply just how my brain and business works**)
After our Introduction Interview, if you then receive an invite to my "Formal Interview", you can consider yourself a top candidate. I have not fully thought out exactly what this “Formal Interview” will consist of or look like, but I know that I will have additional questions after I have had some time to think about our first meeting.
Lastly, please only send a resume if you have one prepared already Please do not spend any time creating/curating your resume for this particular position. The last thing I want to do is waste your time! A resume/cover letter IS NOT REQUIRED because we will discuss all details a resume might contain in the actual interview(s).
