Overview :
Under minimal supervision, performs routine to moderate difficult assignments which require the application of environmental law, regulations, and guidance documents, and procedures in preparing standard operating procedures, reports, guidance memorandums.
The position requires proficient writing and editing skills.
EDUCATION:
Requires a 4-year Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, geology, biology or equivalent.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be cognizant of the environmental laws, regulations and guidance documents under a specific environmental media, such as water, wastewater, solid waste, or air. Effective in interpretation of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines.
Must be a U.S. citizen and pass background screening for access to Government facilities (no felonies).
Must be able to spend a whole day with no access to your telephone.
Must be able to work alone in an office environment and be self-motivated.
Must be able to travel overnight and have a valid driver's license.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with developing deliverables, instructions, reports, and related documents.
- Knowledge of the majority of environmental law, regulations, and guidelines.
- Knowledge and ability to conduct necessary site visits and audits, with limited supervision.
- Assist in planning, development, writing and production of technical and graphic reports.
- Ability to use technical reference materials, exercise initiative to solve environmental issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively, analyze and solve problems, follow simple engineering calculations, deal courteously and effectively with the public, work under varying weather conditions, maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients.
- Working knowledge of different environmental systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of environment resources and mapping sources.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations, technical procedures, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, or other staff members, and the public. Ability to write clear and concise reports, business correspondences and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and response to questions from clients, managers, scientists and others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Occasionally, will conduct or participate in field trips to operating facilities, construction sites, or project sites. This requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance. Lifting of 25 pounds may be required. It also requires clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normal work environment will be a business office. Occasionally, will conduct or participate in field trips to project sites. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and airborne particles.
