We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Graveyard Shift Youth Care Worker to join our team at Independent Life Company. As a Youth Care Worker during the overnight shift, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and emotional support of the youth in our care. This role requires an individual who is calm, attentive, and capable of managing challenging behaviors in a structured environment, while maintaining a nurturing and respectful atmosphere for youth residents. You must stay awake through the entire shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise Youth: Monitor youth residents during overnight hours, ensuring they are safe, comfortable, and following house rules.
- Crisis Management: Respond promptly and effectively to any behavioral incidents or emergencies, providing de-escalation techniques and appropriate interventions when necessary.
- Administer Bedtime Routines: Assist youth with their bedtime routines and ensure that they settle in for the night, adhering to individualized care plans.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on youth behavior, incidents, and other relevant observations during the shift.
- Facility Safety: Conduct routine checks of the facility, ensuring doors are locked, windows are secure, and all safety protocols are followed.
- Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and encouragement to residents, fostering a calm and positive atmosphere throughout the night.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with other staff members during shift changes, passing on important information regarding the youth and any incidents that occurred during the shift.
- Overnight Support: Provide guidance, support, and assistance to residents with any nighttime needs, such as bathroom breaks, water, or medical concerns.
- Follow Program Protocols: Ensure adherence to all policies and procedures set forth by the youth home, including confidentiality, reporting, and safety standards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with youth in a residential or group home setting preferred.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and the challenges faced by at-risk youth.
- Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations with patience and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
