Type: Tribal Salary Range: $41,566 to $49,879 / Per Year Open Period: 11/13/2014 to 1/13/2015 Summary: Provides comprehensive school nursing services for the students attending BIA Day School, San Diego Riverside School, Walatowa Charter High School, Walatowa Head Start and Walatowa Child Care. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. Complies with School Nurse Standing Orders as issued by the Medical Director of the Jemez health Center in the provision of school nursing services. Duties: 1. Provides comprehensive school nursing services for the students attending BIA Day School, San Diego Riverside School, Walatowa Charter High School, Walatowa Head Start and Walatowa Child Care. 2. Utilizes the nursing process in the provision of school and public health nursing service. 3. Complies with School Nurse Standing Orders as issued by the Medical Director of the Jemez health Center in the provision of school nursing services. 4. Assesses students and staff for acute and chronic illnesses and provide first aid for accidents and injuries. 5. Provides screening and referral for Body Mass index assessments of heights and weights. 6. Follows immunization Standing Orders as issued by the Medical Director of the Jemez Health Center in giving immunizations that are needed by students and staff. 7. Coordinates with Community Health Nurse and clinical staff to increase immunization rates in the schools. 8. Communicates with parents and other family members concerning the health status and needs of their children. 9. Informs students of the importance of their healthcare follow-ups and assists with making appointments and arrangements for their care. 10. Serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, health care professionals, and the community. 11. Coordinates and provides care and case management services for students needing special services and/or medication treatment during the school day. Initiates and revises Health Care plans for these students. 12. Participates in Special Education IEP (individualized Education Plan) and SAT (Student Assistance Team Meetings as requested by the schools. 13. Collaborates and consults with school staff, nurse colleagues, medical care providers, students, family members, and JHHS programs in providing school health services. 14. Makes referrals to other providers as required. 15. Monitors status of students with a diagnosis of asthma and gives and/or assists with medication per physician’s order and asthma care plans. 16. Develops and delivers health related workshops to school staff and parents. 17. Participates as a member of JHHS Injury Prevention & Safety Coalition and compiles reports of school accident and injury information. 18. Collaborates with members of multidisciplinary team. 19. Provides evidenced-based, clinical competent nursing care in a culturally sensitive manner. 20. Documents accordingly in/on PCC , RPMS/EHR, and NMSIIS. 21. Follows universal precautions to protect self/patient. 22. Inventory/supply maintenance. 23. Operates/monitors a variety of equipment such as vitals machine, oral and temporal thermometers, and glucometer. 24. Provides daily oversight and monitoring of quality control checks and equipment maintenance. 25. Participates in staff and committee meetings, in-service education and quality improvement initiatives 26. Abides by and upholds patient confidentiality and Privacy Act; and JHHS and Pueblo of Jemez Policy and procedures. 27. Travel to various schools is required 28. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited program with an Associate Degree in Nursing LPN, or LPN Nursing Diploma. Must have current or compact licensure in the state of New Mexico. One year experience. CPR/First Aid certification. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the Pueblo’s insurance carrier.
