Summary/objective
The Director of Accounting reports to the Controller. The Accounting Department is responsible for providing accurate, relevant, and timely information to end users across the organization to achieve data-driven decisions and high levels of financial performance.
Essential functions

- Oversee, in coordination with Controller, accurate and efficient accounting operations, internal controls and financial reporting.
- Supervise accounting for transactions involving mortgage portfolio, investor mortgage activity, and mortgage servicing rights.
- Assist Controller in implementing new accounting standards, regulatory changes impacting accounting and finance, and ongoing process improvements with an emphasis on opportunities for automation.
- Prepare variance-related financial reports and analyses to key stakeholders with a high degree of accuracy.
- Monitor and reconcile assigned general ledgers to ensure accuracy.
- Assist other departments as needed to accomplish projects and understand the impact on the financial statements.
- Coordinate and assist the roll out of new products and services, from an accounting perspective, including the impact on financial statements and accounting and finance functions.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of all accounting tasks to supervise, coach and provide cross-functional support.
- Maintain strong knowledge of IMCU’s products and services.
- Build trust throughout IMCU by collaborating with accounting and finance teams and being personally responsible to provide accurate, relevant, and timely financial information.
- Continue to develop knowledge of industry practices and products.
- Participate in appropriate learning opportunities to grow expertise.
- Prioritize tasks and departmental projects to ensure initiatives are completed efficiently and effectively.
- Work with CFO, Controller and Human Resources staff to administer certain employee benefit plans.
Required education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of experience in accounting, preferably in a banking or credit union environment.
- Proficiency with complex spreadsheets and basic understanding of SQL.
- Thorough knowledge of financial institution accounting concepts, practices, and financial reports.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
