Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight of programs and services that support student success, engagement, and well-being.
- Responsible for fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus culture through the management of areas such as campus life, counseling services, and academic advising.
- Collaborates closely with campus departments to enhance the overall student experience and ensure alignment with the institution's mission and goals.
- Reports to the Chancellor.
- Provides leadership and direction for various and distinct functional areas in Student Affairs and supervise both professional and student staff. Areas directly supervised include: Campus Life, Academic Advising, Accessibility Services, Counseling Services, Basic Needs and the Writing Center. Conduct a variety of personnel actions including, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
- Guides students seeking to pursue academic or non-academic grievances, review student conduct cases and determine discipline as necessary, and act as a liaison between students and various campus offices when appropriate.
- Oversees the academic probation/suspension and tuition appeals processes.
- Participate in decisions regarding satisfactory academic progress for students.
- Serves as Chair of IU East's Behavioral Consultation Team. Work collaboratively with the Title IX Office, the IU East Police Department and the Director of Behavioral Health. Acts as advisor to executive committees; serve on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student support.
- Collaborates with the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Executive Director of Enrollment Services and faculty on initiatives focused on student success. Participates in developing innovative ways to provide support as needed to students in online programs offered through IU East and through IU Online.
- Works collaboratively with other student support leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
- Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for student services areas.
- Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
- Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to student services teams.
- Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
- Drives innovation and excellence within the area of student services; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
- Determines overall budget for student services teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
- Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
- Stays up-to-date on new student services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures and works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in law, public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, or related field
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5 years in student programs, higher education student affairs, or related field
- 3 years of management experience in relevant field
- Experience with providing student support services in an online environment
