The Executive Director - Workforce Development develops and oversees the system-wide Workforce Development strategy and its supporting initiatives, aimed at creating a robust workforce pipeline to support the evolving needs of Indiana University Health. This role involves close collaboration with system and regional teams to ensure alignment between workforce management initiatives and business objectives. The Executive Director will partner with the senior HR team to create and oversee the implementation of proven best practices for workforce development with local and national partners.

Responsibilities include providing governance and oversight of several workforce development initiatives, including the growth and optimization of the Mosaic Center for Work and Life. The Executive Director will also understand talent forecasts to build and implement effective workforce development strategies that advance IU Health’s recruitment and hiring practices, as well as the requirements, policies, and service level agreements necessary within healthcare organizations and partnerships.

Utilizing research and data analysis, the Executive Director will develop and sustain a comprehensive program that includes design, research, key performance indicator determinants, reporting, training, team member oversight, and collaboration with program partners to ensure effective resource utilization and support. This role requires engagement with senior executive-level leaders as a credible, results-driven, and valued partner by initiating proactive discussions and decisions around mission attainment, business performance, financial operations, negotiations, and the development of key talent programs and processes to identify and address current and future business and staffing challenges.

The Executive Director will establish, maintain, and grow working relationships with program funders, partners, employees, institutions, and other not-for-profit organizations to meet client and neighborhood needs and ensure program success. Collaboration with community partners and local businesses across the state is essential; candidates must demonstrate cultural competence and humility to cultivate strong relationships with neighborhood residents. The Executive Director will implement a comprehensive program that addresses diverse needs (cultural, ethnic, mental, physical, socio-economic, etc.) of internal and external participants and their families, ultimately contributing to the health and prosperity of the community. Additionally, this role is critical in driving talent acquisition initiatives aligned with organizational goals while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Reports to: Senior Vice President - Chief Human Resources Officer

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years in workforce development, talent management, or a related field in a matrix organization, with at least 4 years of experience leading a team.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align partnership opportunities with organizational priorities.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial and innovative leadership, with proven experience working with diverse and/or underserved communities.
  • Strong understanding of talent acquisition principles and practices, emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, design, and implement workforce development programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards governing workforce development and training programs.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and the ability to interpret complex information to inform strategic decisions.
