Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Support the Residence Life Supervisory Team in administrative and project based initiatives.
- Lead efforts on process improvement and equity of Residence Life processes by incorporating research and best practices in collaboration with the Assistant Director, Community Management, including: move in support and coordination, move out support and coordination, health and safety, inspection coordination, student staff selection, student staff training, student staff appreciation, student feedback, outreach, and engagement opportunities, and student staff evaluations.
- Assist the Student Success team with registration efforts, including resident outreach, supplemental support and tracking, and coordinating move out process for unregistered and academically dismissed students.
- Assist with assessment projects directly connected to Residence Life through tracking, data collection, follow up and reporting to the Director of Assessment and Planning in the Division of Student Affairs.
- Assist with projects that may include on-call data, conduct, incident reports, training, selection, and use of community spaces.
- Coordinate and oversee residential spaces including lounges and other community spaces through audits, supply management, and data-informed practices.
- Assist Residence Life Coordinators in managing intermediate conflict and crises, including adjudicating residential policy violations through IU Indianapolis conduct process during high volume times.
- Serve in the Administrator on Call rotation responding to after-hours residence life emergencies, crisis management and student support. If a vacancy occurs at the Supervisor on Call level, this position may rotate from Administrator on Call to Supervisor on Call in the interim.
- Establish and maintain a positive residential community that supports and enhances the educational mission of the university through developmental and social programs, personal student contacts, and the fostering of faculty-student interaction. Initiates and fosters student leadership opportunities, personal responsibility, and respect for others.
- Frequently interact with students on an individual and group basis; listen to concerns and issues, advise students on programs and initiatives across the university that may help with academic goals and/or student engagement, and recommends resources for students in crisis or facing adversity.
- Address and resolve student behavioral problems within assigned hall(s)/unit(s) and documents and reports incidents to manager, student conduct staff, or law enforcement as appropriate, maintaining confidentiality and university policy and procedures.
- Coordinate and delegate hall administrative tasks, including room changes, and programming account expenditures.
- Communicate, interpret, and administer residence hall rules and regulations as well as the student code of conduct and other relevant university policies.
- Respond to and resolve basic and complex resident, guest, parent/guardian, and other stakeholder concerns or complaints. Respond to and assist with the management of building-wide emergencies or crisis situations.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of live-in student staff members and assist with selection, training, and evaluation.
- Assist with housing application review, housing assignments, and housing reassignments. May assist with hall councils, oversight of student desk operations, and liaising with unit and campus partners.
- May provide guidance to other residence life staff; may make process recommendations to manager for improved operational efficiency and service delivery.
EDUCATION
Required
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs, counseling, or a closely related field
