A unit within CPF, Engineering Services provides engineering solutions for IU campuses, our team of licensed engineers and skilled systems designers provides mechanical and electrical engineering services and handles special engineering projects for all IU campuses. Engineering Services also provides technical consulting and support for other divisions within Capital Projects.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Prepares design documents (plans and specifications) for mechanical building systems.
- Makes decisions based on the proper application of these standards using knowledge and expertise to all design concepts and renovations.
- Plans and designs equipment, building systems and interiors.
- Manages assigned projects and see through to completion.
- Analyzes, reviews, and problem solves issues.
- Performs field surveys and project inspections.
- Prepares project scope, cost estimates, and budgets in a timely manner.
- Provides technical advice to colleagues and staff across campuses.
- Manages projects with outside consultants and in-house design from initial conception to completion for all university campuses and other properties.
- Communicates with University Staff and Faculty, outside consultants, vendors, contractors, Facility Maintenance teams and other members of the Capital Planning and Facilities team.
- Prepares basic and highly complex design documents, mechanical drawings, plans, and specifications for mechanical systems in order to receive bids from contractors.
- Researches and interprets current state and federal codes and design standards, as well as university design standards.
- Prepares project cost estimates and makes decisions based on the proper application of relevant design standards and codes.
- Partners with maintenance zone teammates (i.e. Construction & Planning Specialists) to implement project designs, including scope clarification, approval of submissions, on-site visits, and completed project inspection.
- Assigns and manages projects through completion, providing technical advice and guidance to colleagues and staff across campuses.
- Analyzes, reviews, and troubleshoots issues.
- Implements solutions to mitigate issues and improve operation and efficiency of mechanical systems.
- Performs field surveys and project inspections.
- Attends required training programs and ensures mechanical systems are compliant with safety and OSHA protocols.
- Assists in developing IU mechanical design standards.
- Regularly provides guidance to lower-level Mechanical Engineers.

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5 years in relevant field
Required
- Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
Required
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Knowledge of all related codes including: national fire codes, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, Indiana building and mechanical codes, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA) standards.
- Knowledge and application of all standards governing architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and CAD standards and use of EMS diagrams.
- Operates computer and fully literate in Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), familiarity with Autodesk products (including AutoCAD, Revit). Other equipment includes CO2 monitor, hot wire anemometer, RPM meter, sound meter, digital cameras, calculator, liquid flow meters, airflow meters, maintenance carts, printers, copiers, plotters, AutoCad software, engineering load calculating software, vendor equipment selection software, etc.
- Knowledge of higher education facilities and/or AutoCAD drawing.
- Knowledge and application of all IU standards governing architectural, mechanical and CAD standards.
- Knowledge of Federal and State of Indiana Codes.
- Capability of managing multiple projects and establishing priorities among those projects to meet deadlines.
