PED-PULMONARY BASIC RESEARCH (IN-PPLB-IUINA)
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.
With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
The Director of the Pulmonary, Asthma and Allergy Research Group has an opening available for a highly motivated individual interested in research on lipid and vitamin regulation of the development of asthma, allergy, and food allergy early in life.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Works with experimental approaches spanning HPLC analysis of lipids and amino acids, molecular analysis of gene expression, cell signaling, mutant mouse models of disease, and use of patient plasma samples.
- Performs lab reagent maintenance, orders lab supplies, works with immunological analyses and flow cytometry.
- Maintains breeding of mouse colonies.
- Performs highly complex and intricate laboratory experiments.
- Leads protocol development, data analysis and report preparation.
- Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
- Hires, trains, and supervises lab staff and student employees; assures observation of safety policies.
- Maintains fiscal accountability of the program and approves all expenditures for the lab.
- May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
- May present research findings to staff, leadership, and external partners.
Required
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in science or a related field plus 3 years of research experience OR
- Bachelor's degree in science or a related field plus 6 years of research experience
