Position Summary & Description
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Director of Campus Maintenance. This position will provide administration, direction, and oversight to ensure the effective management of IUP’s facilities and physical infrastructure.
The Director leads multiple functional areas, including:
- Building and grounds maintenance
- Custodial services
- Skilled-trade operations
- Central storeroom oversight
- Cogeneration Plant operations and energy management
- University fleet/automotive services
This position plays a critical role in maintaining IUP’s physical environment, ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-maintained campus that supports the university’s strategic plan and enhances the experience of students, faculty, staff, and other members of the IUP community. The Director works collaboratively across the university to support the university, ensure compliance, and drive cost-effective facility operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight for the Facilities Maintenance and Operations Department.
- Ensures efficient workflows, cost-effective staffing, and high service standards across all functional areas
- Manages employee performance, training, and regulatory compliance.
- Implements preventative maintenance programs and industry best practices.
- Oversees contract management, vendor performance, and financial stewardship, including inventory and surplus disposition.
- Collaborates on capital and long-range campus development planning with the Planning and Construction department to align goals and optimize resources.
- Drives energy efficiency initiatives and manages the SW Jack Cogeneration Plant.
This position is non-represented management position.
Position Qualifications
MINIMUM:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five years experience supporting complex maintenance and custodial functions within a physically expansive organization.
- Minimum of five years experience supervising employees.
PREFERRED:
- Specialized HVAC, Electrical or Similar Certifications.
- Experience within a higher education environment.
- Experience with vendor management, procurement processes, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contracts, and personnel effectively.
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
Essential Functions
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
- Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public
- Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.
- Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
- Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Follow oral and written instructions
