Indy West Christian School is seeking a mature Christian individual to fill a long-term substitute teaching opening. The ideal candidate has prior teaching experience, the ability to lead and instruct children of all ages, collaborate with a team, and create a positive classroom environment.
Required Personal and Spiritual Qualities
It is expected that the Long-Term Substitute Teacher will:
- Have and maintain a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
- Believe and actively support the school's Statement of Faith.
- Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God's biblical standards for sexual conduct. (Luke 6:40).

Required Professional Qualities
It is expected that the Long-Term Substitute Teacher will possess:
- A valid and current Substitute Teacher permit
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in education)
- Prior teaching experience
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
- General knowledge of several subjects
- Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
- Flexibility and critical thinking skills
- Patience
Essential Job Functions - Accountabilities
It is expected that the Long-Term Substitute Teachers will:
- Develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher's past lesson plans.
- Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis.
- Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Implement established discipline plan and manage school wide expectations for the classroom.
- Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
- Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work
- Maintain accurate grades for each student.
- Maintain accurate attendance record as established by school policy.
- Inform students, parents, and administration of progress or deficiencies and give timely notice of academic and behavioral events.
- Maintain classroom and materials in a clean, attractive, and orderly manner
- Execute all non-instructional duties relevant to the position as assigned by the principal (recess, lunch, car line, etc.).
- Attend special events of the school as deemed required by the school administration.
- Attend scheduled in-service, committee, divisional, faculty, and parent meetings
- Maintain open, positive communication with parents, administrators, and co-workers.
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in all relationships and in dealing with conflict.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing.
- Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 20 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
