Responsibilities
- Program Management and Compliance:
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services with a focus on Pre-K through 5th Grade.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations, and policies related to special education (IDEA, Article 7).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation.
- Oversee the provisions of special transportation, ESY, and Assistive Technology for the district.
- Oversee and monitor the IEP (Individualized Education Program) process to ensure quality and compliance.
- Serve as PAR at case conferences throughout the district as needed.
- Staff Supervision and Support:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of special education personnel.
- Conduct staff development and training on special education best practices, legal requirements, and district policies.
- Facilitate collaborative problem-solving and team building among special education staff.
- Conduct observations and provide feedback to staff regarding instructional practices.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with school administrators, general education teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to support students with disabilities.
- Lead monthly special education department meetings at each elementary school across the district.
- Facilitate effective communication with parents and families regarding special education services.
- Represent the district at meetings and conferences related to special education.
- Assist in mediations and due process hearings as needed.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze student data to identify trends and areas for improvement in special education services.
- Prepare reports and presentations on special education program effectiveness and compliance.
- Utilize data to inform decision-making and program planning.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Indiana Special Education teaching license.
- Administrative license or willingness to obtain one.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, including teaching and/or administrative experience.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations (IDEA, Article 7).
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Proficient in data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of best practices in special education assessment and instruction.
- Experience in a leadership role within a special education department.
- Experience with special education budgeting and resource management.
- Experience with the Indiana Specific special education software that the district utilizes.
- This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance
- Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices.
- Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time
- Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another.
