This position is for the Pirate Academy of Excellence Day School. The Academy supports students with significant social-emotional and behavioral needs. We serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

To assist the classroom teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
- Provides assistance and monitors progress of students receiving services.
- Provides accommodations for students based on their IEPs.
- Communicates with the general education teacher on any issues or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- The ability to be trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention with advanced physical skills.
- Participate in and work with team members in response to crisis intervention.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Teacher of Record.
- 2 years of college experience; or associates degree; or
- Passed the ParaPro Assessment
- Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes
- Experience with Special Education Instruction, preferred
