SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

The Work Based Learning Coordinator for the CTE Department Performs a variety of tasks as liaison between businesses, postsecondary educational facilities, and IPS Schools. The ideal candidate will develop and drive work-based learning experiences to schools while working in tandem with EmployIndy and the TalentBound Initiative. This position reports to the Employment Engagement Manager.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, recruit and secure available CTE specific employment opportunities with Marion County businesses.
  • Represent IPS Career and Technical Education and Career Academy Programs at various networking events and coordinate and host job fairs, on/off site visits for employers to establish a relationship, identify and develop job opportunities for student participants.
  • Coordinate the business functions of Work-Based Learning opportunities from initial conversation through final placement.
  • Determine Work-Based Learning guidelines and requirements by studying job description and job qualifications
  • Accurately negotiate and administer Work-Based Learning documentation and related materials including but not limited to Training Plans, Job Descriptions, timelines, invoices, and salaries.
  • Avoids legal challenges by understanding current legislation; enforcing regulations with managers; recommending new procedures; conducting training.
  • Coach Work-Based Learning participants throughout the duration of the learning opportunity.
  • Some supervision of WBL Capstone students may be required during the school day, depending placements, schedules, etc.
  • Conduct worksite visits and monitor participants’ progress, and complete any necessary reports
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Research job market and employment trends.
  • Report project needs, trends, and outcomes to Employment Engagement Manager/CTE Director
  • Other duties as assigned by Employment Engagement Manager


“Day In the Life” Overview

On a regular day, as the WBL Coordinator, you might:

  • Coordinate and plan a Career Fair day with internal and external partners (i.e. colleges, businesses, community organizations, etc.)
  • Assist students in completing mock interviews, resume writing workshops and/or applications for employment
  • Monitor students enrolled in WBL Capstone courses to ensure they are meeting employer expectations
  • Work with Future Center Staff to host a guest speaker panel for students enrolled in Health Sciences pathways


WHAT YOU’ll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS

As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following:

  • Support students in identifying their ‘E’: Enrollment, Employment, Enlistment
  • Direct WBL activities across the continuum for all pathways in the building; this includes activities focused on:
  • Exposure to a variety of careers within a cluster
  • Engagement in activities, such as a job shadow, industry tour or employer challenge
  • Experience: connect students with paid (and unpaid) immersive learning experiences that take place during the school year or summer (internships, apprenticeships, and externships)


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience. An active teaching license and experience working with youth is preferred.


FLSA CLASSIFICATION:

Exempt 12 Month Employee
