Accounting Generalist with emphasis on payroll and accounts payable.

 

Position: Accounting Generalist

Reports To: School Business Official

Job Goal:    To support the central office administration in a professional manner that leads to a strong financial reporting system that is efficient, accountable, responsible, and user friendly.

Professional Preparation, Experience, Skills:

  • Bachelors’ degree preferred, preferably in business administration or accounting and general office procedures
  • Experience in General Accepted Accounting Principles and Procedures (preferably K-12 public school accounting) and data entry
  • Experience processing payroll for 100 employees, including hourly wage calculations and contracted salary calculations, including employer payroll taxes 
  • Experience processing accounts payable
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of office software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Software Unlimited, AESOP, TimeClock , TalentEd) and aptitude to learn advanced technology applications
  • Experience working with Employee Master Contract and Handbook Agreements
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Advanced clerical and general business office skills
  • Strong organization skills necessary to maintain an efficient and effective records system
  • Experience speaking to groups of varying sizes

Job Duties & Performance Responsibilities:

 

Payroll Functions:

  • Enters employee salary and wage data into payroll system 
  • Assists with new-hire orientations for payroll and employee benefits
  • Prepares and issues quarterly and annual government reports: unemployment, state, federal 941, W2s and 1095s
  • Completes or assists with state reports, Fall B.E.D.S., Certified Annual Report, 403b reports

Accounts Payable Functions:

  • Experience with accounts payable process: requisitions, purchase orders, invoices and check processing
  • Verify and enter invoices
  • Facilitate receiving documents and payment of invoices
  • Maintain digital copies of invoices
  • Communicate with vendors as needed
  • Request W-9s from vendors; enter into accounting system
  • Prepare and issue IRS form 1099s

 

General Accounting Functions:

  • Prepare general journal entries and various accounting reports
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, investment and online receipt system (RevTrak) statements
  • Process cash boxes as needed
  • Assist with annual financial audit

 

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing up to 10-40 pounds on occasion
  • Requires some stooping and kneeling
  • Must be able to sit upright in a desk chair for 7-8 hours per day
  • Must be able to perform data entry at a computer workstation for 7-8 hours per day

Working Conditions

  • Business office atmosphere with a moderately low noise level
  • Tobacco and alcohol free workplace 

Terms of Employment

  • At-Will, Exempt Employee 
  • 12-month position (260 days per year, 8 hours per day)
  • Employment per Board Policies and Administrative Rules and Regulations

Evaluation

  • Performance will be evaluated annually by the School Business Official

 

Salary : $62,525 - $74,100
