POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fabrication Estimator is part of a team who is responsible for accurately estimating costs of fabrication jobs / projects to meet applicable safety standards, cost targets, labor requirements, job scope, and deadlines to maximize productivity and profitability. Estimates will require consideration of materials, manufacture / fabrication, labor / work including any development costs (such as to fabricate new components). Estimates will include any changes / repairs of partially fabricated components because of specification revisions. Urgently Hiring.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews and interprets requests for quotes (RFQ’s).
- Understand plans and requirements for each task and review data/paperwork etc.
- Reviews estimates for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews and understands bid documents, including all specifications and scope of work.
- Executes take-offs from design (contract) drawings.
- Consideration of any special equipment required.
- Inputs take-offs into Job Boss and/or Excel templates.
- Proficient in email communication. This position is heavily reliant on emailing for a written record of events.
- Learns and adheres to the company’s estimating procedure.
- Obtains and reviews vendor pricing for materials, subcontract services, etc. and files all relevant electronic information in digital quote folders.
- Prepares cost estimate analysis and captures all applicable costs incurred from the fabrication of steel components.
- Preparation of bid documents such as company proposals, bid forms, takeoffs, and other pertinent documents.
- Generates proposals based on clearly stated assumptions, including those which incorporate subcontract work and company standards, even when detailed information is lacking.
- Work with team members to develop plans and procedures for new orders.
- Review and analyze charged working hours for existing and completed jobs to ensure current/future performance and quoting standards are aligned.
- Informs immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items.
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, etc.
- Tasks and estimates must be carried out in accordance with contract requirements, within prescribed time limits, meet applicable safety standards, targets, criteria, and deadlines and to maximize productivity and profitability.
- Attends departmental meetings as required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
· Proficient in basic math skills, including taking measurements, converting quantities, understanding hardware sizes and metal size terminology.
- Accurate and detailed oriented.
- Must have the aptitude for the comprehensive reading of plan drawings and the ability to interpret project specifications.
- Working knowledge of field operations and project management is a plus.
- Must be self-motivated and self-sufficient who can apply these skills directly to estimates and constructability, to generate competitive bids.
- Ability to present oneself as professional, innovative, and creative.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Able to foster a positive professional work environment both onsite with trade partners and in the office with co-workers.
- Ability to handle many tasks successfully, even within tight time constraints.
- Software Requirements: MS Windows, Excel (Proficient level), Word, and Outlook. AutoCAD preferred but not required.
- Understand, or have the motivation and ability to learn, the AISC codes and guidelines, AISC Code of Standard Practice, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and ASME Code.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5 yrs. experience in estimating in an industrial steel manufacturing setting.
- Able to read engineered drawings.
- Able to read and interpret weld symbols.
- AutoCAD experience
- Computer proficient
- Able to build rapport with clients.
- Strong negotiation skills
- Deadline and detail oriented
- Mechanical engineering experience is a plus.
- ERP experience required; Job Boss is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to visually utilize computers and other office equipment to properly enter information, as well as read documentation.
· Must be able to perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
· Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl for long periods of time. Continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
· Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. without physical restrictions only on an ‘as needed’ basis.
· Must always wear appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, welding helmets, hearing protection, gloves, and safety toe boots.
· Able to work in hot and cold environments during summer and winter months.
