What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Indy Animal Surgery Center?

We are a surgery only hospital with a small but mighty team. We are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM so you will get to enjoy every weekend off! We are looking for someone with a "go-getter" attitude who thrives in an environment where teamwork, comradery and self starter attitudes are key.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform basic veterinary procedures under the supervision of a veterinarian, including laser therapy
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms and surgical areas
- Administer medications and treatments to animals as directed by the veterinarian
- Assist with animal handling and restraint during examinations and procedures
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples for testing
- Monitor and record vital signs of animals
- Provide post-operative care and monitoring for surgical patients
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care and medication administration
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, work with clients
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related field is preferred
- Strong animal handling skills with the ability to safely restrain animals during procedures
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and veterinary staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
