POSITION PURPOSE
The Service Scheduling Supervisor ensures effective transit schedules, maintains the core transit database for scheduling and routing, coordinates with the planners on bus stops, writes work instructions, and oversees the preparation of all information for HASTUS software. The supervisor is responsible for developing efficient run cuts, adhering to bargaining agreement parameters, preparing operator bids, monitoring performance indicators for fixed-route service, recommending service changes, and coordinating with other departments to ensure quality service delivery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates the scheduling process for service changes and production of fixed-route bus schedules utilizing HASTUS software. This includes mapping and related HASTUS activities that ensure accurate schedules with appropriate travel times and efficient use of vehicles while ensuring data integrity.
- Coordinates and creates operator work assignments to ensure efficient use of the operator workforce. This includes overseeing operator days off, managing route information for operator bids, internal/external communication, and information dissemination.
- Oversee the timely production of public timetables and the accuracy of the information for maps, presentations, booklets, website information, and driver timecards.
- Monitors overall service performance and participates in planning meetings regarding ridership, route alignments, and service changes. Makes recommendations based on scheduling, operations, and ridership needs. Reviews the performance of each transit route, indicating which lines meet performance metrics. Recommends modifications to shift resources from underutilized service to areas where additional service is warranted and works with the Transportation Department to manage schedule adjustments to improve on-time performance.
- Works closely with other departments to identify the needs for adding or subtracting time from schedules to optimize the balance between run times and on-time performance.
- Participates in service planning for the long and short-range transit plans; develops projected service hours, operator requirements, and vehicle requirements for both.
- Oversees Bid process.
- Write policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Train and develop staff on scheduling, CAD/AVL products, and overall scheduling functions.
- Plans and oversees the creation of schedules for special services.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Participates in feedback sessions with employees to improve service delivery; oversees the response process regarding scheduling issues.
- Manages the National Transit Database reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Analytics, Mathematics, Geography, Urban Planning, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- 5 years of operations analysis and scheduling experience or related operations experience is preferred.
- Experience using automated scheduling and run-cutting software is preferred; HASTUS is desirable.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
