Job Details
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the first-tier technical support for GIS-related issues at GDOT.
Validate the operation of virtual ArcGIS Desktop environments and enterprise GIS applications.
Provide excellent customer service, ensuring prompt follow-up and issue resolution.
Escalate complex technical issues and coordinate with IT staff and Esri support when needed.
Offer user training and guidance to improve the productivity of GIS users.
Assist with GIS software upgrades, projects, and on-call support as required.
Develop and maintain system and technical documentation.
Lead the GDOT GIS User Group and contribute to training resource development.
Team & Work Environment: The selected candidate will work within the Enterprise GIS Team of the IT Applications Division. The team consists of:
2 ArcGIS Developers
2 System Administrators
1 Data Manager
1 Team Leader
The team supports over 180 ArcGIS Desktop users and approximately 60,000 annual ArcGIS web visits. GIS applications at GDOT support various functions, including feature mapping, project planning, emergency operations, permitting, safety, and traffic records.
Work Terms & Conditions:
Schedule: 8-hour workdays, starting between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM ET.
Work Location: Hybrid work schedule preferred; local candidates will be given preference.
Contract Duration: Initial contract extends through the fiscal year-end with potential annual renewal.
Technology Requirements: Must have a suitable internet connection and work environment for telework.
Travel & Reimbursement: Authorized travel expenses for lodging and meals will be reimbursed per State of Georgia Travel Policy. However, relocation or travel costs to start work will not be covered.
Holidays & Leave: The Department observes 13 holidays; consultants are not permitted to work on these days or make up lost time without prior approval. Extended leave (more than one week) is not permitted in the first year.
Parking & Commuting: GDOT does not provide free parking; all commuting costs are the responsibility of the consultant.
Communication: Must have a personal cell phone for business calls.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting Esri ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcPro) and ArcGIS Enterprise applications.
Familiarity with cloud-based GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Online and SiteScan.
Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills.
Experience coordinating with IT teams and external vendors (Esri support).
Ability to develop user documentation and conduct training sessions.
Knowledge of GDOT operations or transportation GIS is a plus.
