Job Title: Medically Oriented Optometrist
Norton Sound Health Corporation has been serving Nome and surrounding villages since 1978. We have a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital and an optometry department equipped with four exam lanes, ancillary testing, and an optical department.
About the Role
We are seeking a patient-focused, flexible, self-motivated optometrist with strong diagnostic skills and a passion for delivering great patient experiences. As a team player, you will not be afraid to think outside the box.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent eyecare at the hospital and in village clinics.
- Provide outpatient care for patients of all ages with eye-related disorders and conditions.
- Document exams thoroughly in the electronic health record, including anterior and posterior evaluations, dilating eyes when necessary, ordering additional procedures, prescribing medication/glasses/contact lenses/vision aids/therapy, completing assessments and plans, and educating patients on proper eye care.
- Practice optometry to the full scope of licensure, consulting with other healthcare practitioners for co-management of eye diseases and systemic conditions.
- Refer patients to trusted specialists as needed and follow up on results and reports.
- Educate patients on eye hygiene and safety.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and organizational skills.
Additional Requirements
- Be willing to adapt to variable situations that may impact care delivery.
- Work well under variable conditions in a rural area.
- Travel to village clinics (requirements regarding COVID vaccinations and flu vaccines apply).
Please note that proof of completed COVID vaccinations, including booster shots, and flu vaccines is required. Exemptions will not be accepted. Documentation must include vaccine type, lot number, expiration date, date and site administered, and the employee's full name.
This is a guaranteed position with 32 hours per week at Norton Sound Regional Hospital.
