Role: Data Governance Analyst (Microsoft Purview Oversight)
Location: Jackson, MS- Hybrid
Duration: 1.5 Years contract
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Governance Specialist to lead the implementation and oversight of our Microsoft Purview application. This position is pivotal in advancing our organization’s data governance initiatives by ensuring efficient management, compliance, and utilization of enterprise and public health data. The role involves collaboration with multiple departments and stakeholders to support projects under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), Strategy A3: Data Modernization.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft Purview Oversight:
Act as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview, ensuring effective governance of data across enterprise Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Exchange) and other on-premises, multicloud, and SaaS data platforms.
Manage public health-related data, including disease surveillance, environmental health, vital records, and licensure data, to support organizational objectives.
Key Activities Include
eDiscovery: Implement and oversee electronic document searches using eDiscovery Premium and Standard platforms. Develop and modify search terms, assist in result interpretation, and coordinate reviews for final approval.
Data Cataloging: Organize and index data assets for seamless discovery and understanding.
Data Classification: Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and compliance requirements.
Data Lineage: Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data.
Data Insights: Provide analytics to inform decision-making.
Data Compliance: Ensure all data handling adheres to federal and state regulations and internal policies.
Processing Data And Public Records Requests
Coordinate with internal teams to retrieve and compile requested data accurately and efficiently.
Communicate with requesters to clarify and fulfill requests, provide status updates, and coordinate delivery of data.
Policy Development And Compliance
Assist in designing and implementing data management systems to enhance public health capabilities.
Support projects aimed at creating an agency-wide data catalog, improving external data request processes, and developing data lakes, warehouses, and catalogs for analysis.
Project Support
Collaborate on project timelines, ensuring alignment with goals and deadlines.
Maintain consistent communication with stakeholders to drive progress and outcomes for data modernization projects.
Required Skills And Qualifications
Familiarity with laws and standards governing sensitive data management (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST).
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Assist in designing and implementing data management systems to enhance public health capabilities.
Support projects aimed at creating an agency-wide data catalog, improving external data request processes, and developing data lakes, warehouses, and catalogs for analysis.

Collaborate on project timelines, ensuring alignment with goals and deadlines.
Maintain consistent communication with stakeholders to drive progress and outcomes for data modernization projects.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
- Experience using Microsoft Purview to:
- Implement and manage data governance frameworks.
- Conduct eDiscovery Premium searches.
Familiarity with laws and standards governing sensitive data management (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST).
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
