Responsibilities
During fieldwork, the job involves moderate physical activity like walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Inspectors may lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds occasionally. They work in different environments with loud noise, dust, dirt, and changing temperatures. Inspectors need to move skillfully around construction sites and conduct inspections of materials and structures. This position predominantly involves working in the field; however, some office work will be required.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Some night and weekend work may be required based on the project schedule.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for monitoring and inspecting highway construction to ensure compliance with safety, plans, specifications, and other contract requirements.
- Perform engineering inspections activities such as construction observation of concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout construction for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, NCDOT, and/or project specifications.
- Conduct and record daily construction record-keeping as well as perform traffic and erosion control inspections as applicable. Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications.
- Verify calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards.
- Prepare sample information for submittal to our ASHTO Accredited Lab.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
- Must have math calculation skills and MS Office experience.
- Strong written and communication skills required.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Associates or BS in Civil Engineering desired.
- Experience with testing/inspections of soil, concrete and/or asphalt materials preferred.
