About The Role

Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm looking for a Project Office Custodian (POC) to join our Red Line Extension (RLE) Project Team! The POC will provide overall janitorial services and coordination of maintenance activities including daily

general cleaning of offices, washrooms, grounds and lawn care, as well as pest control.

The Project Office Custodian (POC) will report to the Lead Office Engineer. The two of you will collaborate regularly with the Project Office Manager to keep up with the inventory of cleaning supplies, utility needs, ground care supplies and kitchen supplies. In addition, this role will follow up and track purchase orders, invoices and expenses from vendors and/or suppliers. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, flexible to change and able to adjust in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:

Includes, but is not limited to the following:

General Office Cleaning

  • Emptying and removal of trash and recycling containers to designated areas on the property.
  • Dusting, damp mopping, or vacuuming of floors.
  • Maintain lobby walk-off mats.
  • Cleaning of kitchen/pantry areas, cleaning of common areas, and other daily cleaning activities as necessary or as requested by staff at the Project Office.

Daily Washroom Cleaning

  • Washing of all mirrors, shelves, towel dispensers, receptacles.
  • Wash and disinfect all basins, bowls, and urinals with germicidal detergent, including areas near urinals; clean underside of toilet bowl rings and urinals; wash both sides of all toilet seats with germicidal detergent and dry wipe.
  • Spot clean all partitions and screens and tiled walls.
  • Dust top edges of all partitions, ledges, and mirror tops.
  • Remove all wastepaper and refuse to the designated areas of the building.
  • Fill toilet tissue holders and soap dispensers as needed and report any damage to the POM.

Quarterly Washroom Cleaning

  • Machine scrub all washroom floors with a germicidal solution, detergent, and water. After scrubbing, the floor will be rinsed with clear water and dried. All water marks will be removed from walls, partitions, and fixtures. If directed by office engineer, an approved floor finish will be applied.
  • Floor drains must be cleaned and disinfected and filled with water quarterly.
  • Sanitize all metal partitions, doors, screens, and tiled walls with germicidal solution.

Lawn Care

  • Provide bi-weekly, or as required, lawn care starting mid-April and concluding in mid-November.

Pest Control

  • Provide and monitor pest control at the Project Office. Nuisance areas, such as eating or food storage areas should be inspected and treated monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Ideal candidate(s) will have credentials as a Certified Custodial Technician or Janitorial Custodial Certification is preferred and 3 years’ experience as a Custodian and/or Janitor Technician.
  • May consider a High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of equivalent progressive Custodian/Janitorial/Utilities experience.
  • Prior HVAC, Plumbing, Painting, handling of Pest Control, or Electrical technician experience desired.
  • Previous experience as a Custodian or Janitor on Construction or Project Jobsite is strongly desired; responsibilities to include replacing fuses, bulbs, checking circuit breakers and day-to-day custodian/janitorial maintenance work at the RLE-CTA jobsite.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Assist with the procurement process, including helping to monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, tracking purchase orders status and assist with monitoring expenditures.
  • Progressive experience in making sound decisions and exercising good judgment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various levels of employees and/or stakeholders utilizing strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate great attention to details, time management and proven organizational skills.
  • Must be able to take directions, follow instructions, complete tasks, and good follow through skills.
  • Must be reliable, flexible, and demonstrate the ability to maintain and process sensitive and/or confidential information appropriately.
  • Must be flexible to OT and have the ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and open to local travel.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to sit, talk, hear, write, type, read, and manipulate computers and/or tablets along with other mobile devices and equipment. The employee may lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Work Conditions

  • IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
  • Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
  • Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
  • Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
  • Usually works in outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may Frequently work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require hearing protection.
