The Therapeutic & Life Enrichment Department has the primary responsibility for developing and implementing recreation and leisure-based programs that are consistent with the resident’s assessed needs, abilities, and interests. The ultimate goals of therapist interventions include improving physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning and the achievement of an optimal level of personal independence for each individual resident. The Recreation Therapist utilizes a variety of settings, modalities and leadership techniques to engage the individual at their highest practical level. All essential job responsibilities will be executed in accordance with Inglis Administrative policies and compliance/ethics guidelines.

The Recreation Therapist utilizes a variety of settings, modalities and leadership techniques to engage the individual at their highest practical level. All essential job responsibilities will be executed in accordance with Inglis Administrative policies and compliance/ethics guidelines.
What You'll Do
- Assess, Plans develops, implements, and evaluates Therapeutic Recreation structured programs, groups, and individual sessions based on the resident’s assessed needs and interests.
- Utilizes a variety of leadership styles / techniques to engage the residents in individual, small group, and large group settings. Facilitating engagement for individuals of various functioning abilities.
- Knowledge of recreation interventions in all domains (physical, creative, social, cognitive, educational, spiritual and service)
- Ability to adapt recreation programs – considering time frames, setting, leadership style and adaptations, facilitation style, cognitive skills needed.
- Utilizes TLE Evaluations to assess and plan specific goals and interventions to address the resident’s identified
- Works with the Interdisciplinary Team to ensure continuity of resident’s involvement in therapeutic recreation.
- Collaborates and networks with specialized professionals to provide diverse opportunities that meet the resident’s needs and interests. As prescribed by a Physician; deliver and document Recreation therapy interventions to address a specific need or problem of an individual resident.
- Undergraduate degree from a recognized and accredited institution in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Board certification required by The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Recreation Therapist (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
- A minimum of one (2) year of relevant experience in Long Term Care or Health Care setting.
- Knowledge of the theories and practices of the Therapeutic Recreation profession, including philosophy, professional development, credentials, client advocacy, ethics, conduct and practice skills is required.
