Position: Nursery Lead | Location: Inkster, Michigan | Wage: $19-22/ Hr (D.O.E.)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6AM–4:30PM (4-Day Workweek)

Job Summary/ Description

The Nursery Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the vegetative stage in a commercial cannabis cultivation facility with the support of the Cultivation Manager. Applicants will be required to demonstrate previous experience in a regulated horticulture environment with a preferable background in production management in comparable agriculture industries. This role requires strong leadership skills, a high-level of self-motivation, precise plant care knowledge, and deep understanding of the vegetative/ clone growth phase, as well as environmental parameters for successful Veg plants. As the Nursery Lead, you would be responsible for maintaining quality control measures and ensuring the health and safety of crops during the vegetative stages of growth from propagation to transplant and occasionally into the pre-harvest stage.

Responsibilities

Growth Management

  • Implement effective strategies for optimal vegetative growth, including lighting, temperature, humidity, CO2, and nutrient requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal environmental conditions to ensure healthy plant growth and development.
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures for pruning, training, and plant health maintenance.

Technical Skill

  • Properly and precisely execute propagation of clones to ensure quality/ consistency and training team to follow SOP.
  • Pull clones while looking for signs of pests, diseases, mold, or rot.
  • Prune stock plants to provide cuttings for propagation.
  • Maintain a clean area upon completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure plant health by pruning, topping, trimming, analyzing plant health according to policy, as well as any other tasks required.
  • Assists the Director with crop planning, coordinating, and overseeing the cuttings schedule to ensure the correct quantity and variety of strains are selected for each cycle.
  • Perform regular compliance checks to ensure all plant waste is being tracked, plants are properly tagged and accounted for, and all regulations are being followed.
  • Communicate with the Metrc Team on plant counts for metrc tag purchases as well as ensuring the plant tag application is completed within the required timeline.

Team Management

  • Foster a positive work culture that encourages collaboration, productivity, and professional growth.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, providing clear instructions and guidance to optimize performance.
  • Communicate with Cultivation Manager Greenhouse Lead on all plant related topics i.e. transport, growth rates, challenges, etc.

Facility and Resource Management

  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the vegetative area, ensuring it meets regulatory and safety standards.
  • Manage vegetative equipment, supplies, and inventory to ensure operational and compliance needs are met.

Record Keeping and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of all vegetative operations, including plant inventory, nutrient usage, and cultivation techniques
  • Assist in tracking plant movements and changes according to production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements related to cannabis cultivation.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices regarding vegetative growth and implement necessary changes.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of commercial cannabis experience.
  • , or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of cannabis cultivation practices in the Veg phase
  • Highly organized, capable of prioritizing tasks in a fastpaced environment.
  • Proactive problem solving skills to handle evolving challenges in veg.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions (hot/cold greenhouse, frequent walking, lifting, and mobility).
  • Basic math skills for inventory management
  • Proficiency in irrigating plants effectively
  • Ability to collect and analyze data related to plant growth
  • Strong leadership skills

Work Environment

This role is not a desk job—expect to be active and on the move all day. Working in rooms with extreme temperature fluctuations. Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Hands on work with plants, cultivation equipment, and facility maintenance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

  • Weekends as needed
