Our Field Application Engineers function as the technical “face” of Innovative IDM, providing pre-sales support, engineering expertise, and training for our team and customers. They turn "How does this even work?" into "Wow, this is legendary!" This role offers a perfect balance of hands-on engineering and customer interaction, where your expertise directly impacts both the tech and sales outcomes.

Duties / Responsibilities

Sales :

  • Make joint calls with the sales team to look at potential applications, demonstrate products and help identify solutions that address customer challenges and enhance their operational efficiency.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of Innovative-IDM products and services to effectively present tailored solutions to both potential and existing customers.
  • Stay up-to-date with core product lines, emerging technologies and industry trends related to industrial automation.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to review customer requirements and specifications to develop accurate cost estimates, cost breakdown, detailed project scope, and timeline estimates to provide detailed proposals for customers based on these proposal estimates.
  • Prepare proposals for customers in a timely manner.

Training :

  • Teaches technical product classes for customers, engineers, field service technicians, customer service and sales professionals.
  • Attends mandatory supplier training and applies information learned to sales process and training.
  • Follows industry trends and stays current with the newest technologies from our Core Vendors.
  • Conducts product demonstrations to introduce and educate customers on Innovative IDM products and solutions emphasizing key differentiators that set us apart from the competition.
  • Engineering :

  • Performs on-site startups at customer locations as needed.
  • Develops PLC / HMI programs and mechanical / electrical schematics for projects as needed to support our customers and demonstrate feasibility for applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering to design and implement custom automation solutions.
  • Conduct proof of concepts and recommend appropriate automation solutions.
  • Utilizes technical product and application knowledge to assist engineering and / or sales team.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure that all project details are captured in the cost estimate.
  • Manage multiple cost estimation proposals simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet proposal deadlines.
  • Provide detailed turnover of project to engineering after receipt of order.

    Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial automation or related field.
  • Knowledge / Experience with PLC programming, Motion programming, and HMI development.
  • Knowledge of UL508A / UL698 requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, as needed.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience with robotics and motion control systems is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet / IP, EtherCAT, and Profibus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
